10 Streetwear Brands That Changed The Urban Clothing Industry

Urban streetwear brands have made major waves in the industry. Since 2000 urban fashion has come a long way. From the pioneers of streetwear to mainstream brands that adopted their style, urban clothing has come a long way over the past couple of decades. You can be completely on-trend and dress casually and comfortably at the same time.

  • Supreme- Supreme clothing brand launched in New York City in 1994. They produce clothes aimed at youth cultures, the skateboarding community, and the hip-hop nation. Supreme produces a wide offering of quality skateboards, urban clothing, shoes, and streetwear accessories.

  • Stussy- Stussy was founded in the early 80s in Laguna Beach, California grew primarily through its surfwear. Skateboarding, punk rock, and hip hop subcultures adopted the brand making it even more successful. Stussy was sold all over the country by the early 90s in high-end boutiques, as California lifestyle clothing.

  • Bape- It all started in 1993 in Harajuku, Tokyo with the urban clothing store NOWHERE. The brand Bape was named after the classic film ‘Planet of the Apes’ and is short for “bathing ape.” The company launched by selling half of its product and giving the rest to various style influencers. The rapper Pharell helped bring Bape to the U.S. in the early 2000s.

  • Vetements- This luxury streetwear label was founded in Paris in 2014 by the future creative director of Balenciaga. The brand was first launched in Paris.   • Adidas- Adidas has been making sportswear for over fifty years. They are the second-largest sportswear producer in the world. Many celebrities and musicians choose Adidas streetwear. The logo is recognized everywhere but the pieces don't offer that edgy variety you see with other urban fashion labels.

  • Fashion Nova- Fashion Nova was founded in 2006 as a club attire boutique. The Curve collection was very hot. They have released popular lines in collaboration with multiple female rappers. Fashion Nova has introduced more women to urban fashion.

  • Vans- Vans sneakers were introduced back in 1966 in Anaheim, CA. Their unique rubber shoes were made and sold to order on site.
